T Critique--Mat Kearney Live in Concert at...
T: I won’t go terribly in depth. Actually, there’s not a lot to go in depth about (more on that in a minute). For the quintessential Mat Kearney review, most definitely search mauiloveschachi for R’s review of his concert last month (an amazing concert).
Tonight, R and I jumped into J’s car and sped off to Malibu. Mat was performing outside on a bluff overlooking the...

T Critique: Mirror Mirror
T: OK. Before you rush to judgement about this, know that R is probably the most enthusiastic Julia Roberts fan in the world. And I’ve always been a fan too. So, despite the iffy promo spots, there was no way in the world we weren’t going to see Mirror Mirror.
I can tell you I was pleasantly surprised. There isn’t much I would complain about. I’ve read reviews that...

Special Day--Special Congrats from M & T
M & T wish our friends, D and Z a most spectacular wedding day. Made for each other, they say, often. In this case, so very true.

What To Watch, 3-31-12
T: Well, I’ve got next to nothing for you.
If you like cats, Must Love Cats is new today on Animal Planet. It’s a fun, silly show hosted by John Fulton. 5p satellite, 8p cable.
That’s it (though there are a few House Hunters Internationals on)!
Happy go out and do something today!

Save These Shows, Part 2 (Pardon the long delay)
M: I had better see some GCB, 30 Rock & Raising Hope in the upfront this year.
T: Comments after the jump.
GCB - seems like a lock but it ain’t over until the fat lady sings. It’s satirical enough for my taste (no Suburgatory, but enjoyably silly) yet soapy enough to have broader appeal. ABC is testing it out in Desperate Housewives time slot (although with a Once...

MTV Renews The Real World for a 28th "Season"
T: I can’t believe it’s been 20 years since The Real World premiered. I also can’t believe I’ve watched every season except the first. Ranked in order of awesomeness after the jump.
My favorites, in order.
#1: Real World: Hawaii
#1 (tie): Real World: New Orleans (2000)
#3: Real World: Austin
#4: Real World: Key West
#5: Real World: Chicago

What To Watch, 3-30-12
T: Very light night.
NBC has Who Do You Think You Are. Rita Wilson is the subject tonight. This one I will probably watch with R while reading…but the producers of this show do a great job. Next up is Grimm. Renewed for next season, this is one of NBC’s few bright spots. Good cast, inventive backstory and satisfying procedural. Dateline follows, if that’s your thing....

What To Watch, 3-29-12
T: How can it be it’s almost April?! This year is flying by. Busy night tonight. Let’s get to it.
The Big Bang Theory is finally back on CBS after its basketball imposed vacation. Cannot wait. Sheldon is haunted by Leonard Nemoy, his hero. Anytime something happens to Sheldon, chances are it’s going to be a great show. BBT is a show I can watch over and over and over....

M Critique: 21 Jump Street Was Riproaringly...
I’m going to buy this one when it comes out for repeat viewing. D and I laughed and snickered our asses off the whole time. So many quotable moments, great comedic performances, and self-aware nods to the 80s series (including sweet cameos) and mid-20s dudes in high school. It was a ride. Despite my doubts about Channing Tatum, I was in for this one as soon as I knew Jonah Hill was...

MIB trailer looks very funny
See for yourself: http://www.meninblack.com/
M is going to have a busy cinema schedule in 2012
T: Ick. I’m going to go throw up now. You could not pay me to watch this.
M: Listen, I know 2 really burned us all, but 1 was fun. You have your soaps, I have my MIB and Three Stooges.

The new American Reunion trailer has me sold!

What To Watch, 3-28-12
T: Broadcast, boring-ish. Cable’s busy.
ABC’s only got Happy Endings tonight. Everything else continues (and will continue next week) to be in repeats. You’ve only got two episodes of the fun (albeit uneven) show left this season. Check it out while you can. 9:30p.
Even though I’m skewered by M, I’m going to go ahead and reco Whitney and Are You There,...

T Analysis: Ryan Murphy sucks
T: Don’t get me wrong here. He’s done a few first seasons of his shows incredibly well. People even hung in there for Nip/Tuck for a few seasons. But he can’t run a show for more than a year, on average.
He’s destroyed Glee. Last year was bad. This year is torture. I can’t even believe that FOX is planning to renew it. Its ratings have plummeted beyond...

Modern Family cast renegotiating contracts; sounds...
T: No question, the cast of TV’s best comedy is not making what they should (commensurate with ratings—ABC’s hottest show) at $60M per episode (Ed O’Neil is a bit higher). THR.com says they’re going for $200M per episode. That’s going to get very, very expensive.
In this case, I’m going to say it’s worth it. Modern Family is going to be a giant...

TheWrap.com lists 4 irrelevant cable networks; T...
T: TheWrap.com has an article today (link below) with their list of 4 cable networks that just shouldn’t exist. I think they have a point. And these are MY opinions on their list, just to be clear.
4: McTV. OK, so this isn’t exactly a cable network. It’s the McDonalds in house new network. Because people are going to pay SO much attention when they run into a McD’s....

CinemaCon names my Laser, Josh Hutcherson,...
T: And that’s very deserved. By now anyone who reads mauiloveschachi knows how I felt about The Hunger Games. Just don’t forget about that (albeit small) paragraph with my only three likes about the film. Josh was one of them. For his true talent, go back to The Kids Are All Right. Laser forever (definitely the name of my child if I ever have one).

What To Watch, 3-27-12
T: Another extremely easy night. Just about everything is repeating.
Fox gives us new eps of Raising Hope. Burt (Garret Dillahunt) is running for chairperson of some group. Nothing good can come of this! Dillahunt is SO underrated…or maybe just under the radar. He is SO good every second he is on. With nothing else worth watching at 8p, PLEASE check out Raising Hope! There is a...

The Voice Recap (Spoiler Alert)
M: I know we really haven’t done recaps yet, outside of finales/premieres, but here goes one (this won’t be exhaustive - just the stuff that grabbed me). But to cover important things first, Christina IS still wearing the bedazzled 45 on her head, and Adam is in his granny sweater. Why am I obsessed with this show? (T: Seriously. It’s as if the world has shifted off its...

Is There a $3 Screening of Titanic Where the Ship...
M: Because I really can’t sit through the rest of it. James Cameron, you are a genius with effects, but should stay away from dialogue (and possibly, the theme and plot).
T: Apparently I will be seeing this movie again alone. Ray has almost completely refused (I hold out hope!) and you have just made your opinion known. Definitely don’t get me wrong, you are COMPLETELY right...

You're Wealthy & Drunk. Why Do You Drive?
M: If I know a night’s going to be a big night, I suck it up & pay for a cab (which in LA, can be quite a bit). Or, as N & I did this NYE, I took the bus (OK - first time in 15 years here), and splurge on a cab back. Bobby Brown is the latest, but why don’t these wealthy people at least take a cab, if not have a car & driver all evening?
And I JUST downloaded some New...

Save These Shows, Please
T: It’s that time of year when, unless you’re only a CBS fan, which renewed 18 shows in one fell swoop (almost their entire schedule), you get a little nervous for some of your favorite shows that not too many are watching. A little ad and promo can do wonders for these shows. When we launched One Tree Hill back in the day, it didn’t premiere well. It was a last minute...
