What to Watch, 9-16-12
M: “You Can’t Be Half a Gangster.” Boardwalk Empire returns tonight! There’s lots of talk about Mad Men’s ensemble cast; but I submit to you that this may be one of the best dramatic ensembles out there. Steve Buscemi is chilling as Nucky Thompson; and the familiar, yet not famous, supporting cast has one of the deepest benches on TV. HBO killed off one of the lead characters last season — one of my favorites — and the show will not skip a beat for me. I’m particularly excited to see Bobby Cannavale will be joining the cast. He did a great job on Nurse Jackie and he’s always been a gangsta to me. There’s a convenient 15 minute Season 2 catch-up both on-air and on HBO Go. And since HBO is often on several channels, see if you can catch it at 6PM if you’re on the West Coast. I know I can’t wait until 9PM, and I’m going to need 9PM open next week when even more series return/premiere. HBO, 9PM EDT

And then, a moment that has definitely come. The Weeds series finale. I will certainly miss Weeds; but it hasn’t been itself for a while. Only because they set their own bar so high. But I’m weary of crazy Nancy. I hate her sister (Single White Female, anyone?). Still love love love Justin Kirk’s Andy, and I’m glad he took off. And dear Silas - we watched you grow up, and you’re so HOT! Am I bad, creepy person for saying that? And the gang’s all here for the last few episodes — I hope it all goes up in a big, glorious puff of smoke. Farewell.
Showtime, 10PM EDT
Happy Viewing!
